Last day at Calvary for the Boys

Today was the last day (as far as we know) that Isaiah and Nate will be at Calvary for about a year. They said some good-byes and Isaiah especially needed lots of hugs from mommy and daddy today. It is sad to leave the only church our boys have ever known as home. Thanks to all of our Calvary family for taking your baptismal vows toward our boys seriously. They have clearly seen the love of Christ in so many of you. An extra special thanks to all of the Fam-Jam singers and worship leaders as our boys LOVE Fam-Jam and will miss it dearly next year. Send us pictures (and/or video)!

Nate's Passport Photos

Just for fun, we thought we'd share some of our many attempts to get a "usable" picture of our two year old for his passport.

Basic Info

Hello everyone. I realized that I should put the basic information of what we are doing for those who need to catch up.
Our family is moving to Machakos, Kenya for the upcoming school year. Todd is going to be a "substitute" teacher at Scott Theological College for missionaries on furlough. He gets to teach English grammar, History and Theology of Missions, and Church History (with an emphasis on African church history) this fall. The classes will change in the spring. There is also a strong emphasis on mentoring students. All professors and students live on campus so we are looking forward to meeting new people and learning new things.
My main job is going to continue to be a mom and to raise our sons to be followers of Jesus Christ. Much of my time will be spent cooking from scratch. We won't have a washer or dryer, so it is expected that we hire "house help" to do laundry (wash it on a board and hang it up to dry) and maybe other things. Minimum wage is about $1/hour. I think money is done in shillings, but these are things that I will get some training on in New York (July 6-8).
We are going as full-support missionaries under Africa Inland Mission. The trip is estimated at about $38,000. Since we don't have that much money in savings, we are raising support. :) So many people have been so generous already. Our payment from the school is a partially furnished home. All "Western" professors raise support so that the costs can stay low for the students. African professors are paid, as they should be. Feel free to comment and ask questions. I will do my best to find answers.

Seven Days and Counting

We only have seven days left in our house. Then we move to Omaha (followed by training in New York and then back to Minneapolis for a wedding and Todd's last time to preach at Calvary for awhile).
We are currently planning to depart for Kenya on July 29, 2009 and our tentative return to the States date is June 2, 2010. We are getting more and more excited. Our household items are fitting into boxes and many people have been helping out taking care of the boys so that packing can go more efficiently.
That's it for tonight. I'm hoping to crash on the couch with my hubby and watch a little t.v. or "DD" as Nate calls it. Have a great night.

Welcome everyone!

Hello. This is my first attempt to blog. Here goes at updating ya'll.

We are going to be moving out our house by the end of June. Nathanael's 2nd birthday is tomorrow. If it doesn't rain tonight, we will have a party in our backyard for our neighbors. If it does...well, I don't have that figured out yet.
I'm packing and writing thank you notes to so many terrific people for supporting us financially and prayerfully. We have broken the $10,000 mark and are totally blessed and humbled by peoples' generosity.

I've got to go. There is work to be done. I'll try this again soon.
